If you have a Mental Illness it is important to follow these steps:

Follow your dreams…don’t give up hope.

Take your medication as prescribed…talk to your doctor (psychiatrist) about how you are responding to your meds and how you are feeling about your treatment plan.

Learn about your diagnosis…the more you educate yourself about your illness the better you are able to take control of your own life.

Remember you are a person with value and you deserve love, understanding, compassion and respect.

Also, surround yourself with things you like when you are depressed. For example pictures of loved ones, poetry you wrote, or  listen to your favorite songs and watch your favortie movies. Make your life a happy one.

To get rid of the negative stigma surrounding mental illnes use words like mood disorder, thought disorter, cognitive (thinking) disorder rather than the scary words like bipolar and schizophrenia which really are used for doctors to describe certain patterns and explanation for insurance companies. Dont be afraid of your diagnosis. Embrace it and learn how to aliviate your symptoms.
